Helping readers navigate liveblogs

New to liveblogs? This post will help you with that. We’ve also thrown in some tips for livebloggers to make producing these events easier, too!

We were recently asked a very interesting question via Twitter about liveblogs, and how people view them. Steve Ladurantaye, reporter for the Globe and Mail tweeted “am I the only reader in the world who is completely incapable of following a live blog?” Mason Wright, another Globe and Mail employee agreed with Steve’s tweet and CC’d us, adding that the question doesn’t get asked nearly enough.

We agree with Globe and Mail’s team and have decided to dedicate a blog post to the readers of live blogs, which are being used with increased frequency by various media organizations to report real-time news. While some readers who join these liveblogs may be familiar with the real-time format, others may not—this blog post is dedicated to those novice readers. We’ve also included a section for livebloggers, giving some tips on creating a liveblog that’s easy to read and follow. (more…)
